Helping people with autism thrive
Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) is a type of therapy commonly used to help people with autism spectrum disorder develop useful social, motor, and general life skills. ABA is based on decades of research uncovering how people learn, and it focuses on identifying, influencing and improving specific behaviors and decreasing harmful behaviors.Studies have shown ABA to be most effective in early intervention programs with children under the age of five. However, people of all ages can benefit from learning skills such as listening, imitating, reading, and seeing things from another person’s perspective.
ABA focuses on the home environment and helps caregivers learn and apply these techniques. The amount of ABA therapy recommended for each person is unique. Influencing factors include: age, functioning level, and clinical evaluations based on developmental levels.
