Resilience-building resources

Building your knowledge about how to cope with and bounce back from adversity is a wise decision. When problems seem overwhelming, it’s good to know where you can turn to for support in handling life’s challenges.

Your close social group

Although they can’t eliminate your challenges, your trusted family, friends and colleagues can help you get through difficult situations. Share your concerns with them. They may be able to provide additional perspective and encouragement and help you find solutions to your problems.

Community resources

Topic-specific support groups (e.g., illness, grief, special needs, substance abuse), faith communities and other local resources such as domestic violence programs and family support groups can provide various types of timely help if you’re facing a crisis.

There’s a book for that

There are many books available on resilience-oriented topics, including accounts by others who have successfully overcome difficult situations such as serious illness, divorce, abuse, drug or alcohol addiction, mental health problems, post-traumatic stress and much more. These accounts can help you understand that you’re not alone.

You’ll see how others handled their issues successfully and how you can apply that information to your own situation.
